Mesa County, Colo.- (UPDATE 11/26): The Mesa County Coroner’s Office has completed its examination regarding the death of Mark Belt, a 33-year-old male resident of Edgewater, Colorado. Mr. Belt was the person involved in the incident at I70 mile marker 52 late November 22, 2019, where a truck crashed into the Colorado River. The cause of death is drowning and the manner of death is accident. It was unclear if the decedent was wearing a seat belt during the incident and his blood alcohol was 0.246%.

(UPDATE 11/25): One person is dead following a crash on the interstate from the weekend.

On Monday afternoon, crews from several different agencies were on scene and recovered the truck out in the early evening hours.

ORIGINAL STORY: A pickup truck remains submerged in the Colorado River after an accident along I-70.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, a pickup truck heading westbound crashed near the 53 mile marker along I-70 late Friday night.

An officer on scene says the truck flipped over the barricade, ending up in the Colorado River.

Colorado State Patrol also says the truck was towing a trailer at the time of the accident, but the trailer remained on the road and was towed away.

Authorities with Colorado State Patrol, Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, and Mesa County Search and Rescue worked to pull the truck out of the river Saturday, but were unsuccessful.

Efforts to pull the truck out resume Monday morning, as authorities assemble more resources to attempt to pull the truck out.

This includes bringing in a dive team from Summit County.

As of right now, Colorado State Patrol have not found the occupant or occupants of the vehicle, or identified the owner of the vehicle.
